“Starting off on the right paw” with annual health checks is something we promote strongly at Mermaid Waters Veterinary Surgery. It provides us the ability to discuss healthy habits. It permits a thorough health check which enables us to pick up on abnormalities, hopefully earlier in the disease process, and potentially start appropriate treatment. Some common conditions we see are dental disease, skin/ear disease, osteoarthritis and heart disease. Early identification of these conditions can permit successful treatment and management and the prevention of pain and suffering to your pet.
Your vet may recommend 6 monthly health checks if indicated, for example if your pet has a medical condition that requires frequent monitoring or ongoing medications, or is a senior patient who would benefit from more regular visits to aid in the early detection of age related conditions.
